Teachers:

Henry Blackford – Co-Lead Teacher

Henry is originally from Boone, NC.  He graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Anthropology.  He has experience working with children at Camp Celo in Burnsville, NC.  As a child, Henry attended a Montessori school for his elementary years.  He has been familiar with the Montessori curriculum for a long time and decided to pursue a career in education.  In the summer of 2009, Henry attended the Center for Montessori Teacher education in Raleigh, NC.  He completed his Lower Elementary training and has gone back to CMTE/NC for his Upper Elementary training in 2011.  Henry now holds dual certifications (6-12) from the American Montessori Society.

Henry brings a wealth of knowledge to the students of MESA, including his fluency of the Spanish language as well as his many musical talents.  He has lived, traveled and studied abroad in Central and South America.  Henry enjoys being outdoors in the mountains for hiking, biking and running.  He lives in N. Asheville with his wife Georgette and their daughters, Sylvia & Miriam.

Cara Beth Brackins – Co-Lead Teacher

Cara Beth grew up in Johnson City, TN.  She graduated from Milligan College with a Bachelor’s of Fine Art degree in Art with an emphasis in Photography and Humanities.  While in pursuit of a graduate degree in teaching, Cara Beth learned about Montessori Education.  Originally, she was interested in the Primary 3-6 program but soon found that she loved getting to spend time with and teaching older students.  Cara Beth has completed her Elementary training at Lander University where she earned a Master’s of Education in Montessori Education and an American Montessori Society 9-12 certification.  She has been teaching in an Upper Elementary environment for 4 years and is currently the Co-lead Teacher at MESA.

Since recently moving from Simpsonville, SC, Cara Beth has viewed the move to North Carolina as a return to her roots.  She currently lives in Alexander, NC with her husband, Canaan, and daughter, Stella Fae.  Cara Beth is a creative spirit and enjoys finding new ways to explore and create.
