Sarah Hunter
French and Art Teacher
IMG_9602sarahSarah’s family has an apartment in Paris, and she grew up spending part of each year in France. During college, she worked towards her Art major while studying abroad in the French countryside in Aix-en-Provence. She lived with a French family, including the renowned organist of the town’s cathedral, plus a cat, a dog, their ducks, rabbit, and guinea pig. Growing up in a family full of “francophiles,” Sarah looks forward to sharing her knowledge and experiences in France with the kids!

Sarah was raised in Atlanta in an art loving family.  She fell in love with photography in high school so much that she majored in it in college (Guilford College) and mastered in art at the Savannah College of Art and Design.  From studying painting in Aix-en-Provence, France to owning her own photography business, Sarah has a lot to bring to the table.  Her goal in art class each year is to discuss art history, to explore and embrace one’s own creative style, to allow the kids the opportunity to explore as many mediums as possible and most importantly…to have fun!

Jennifer Armstrong
Health/Fitness
I am thrilled to be a part of the MESA community this year and am looking forward to meeting and working with each of your children. We are going to have a wonderful time exploring and discovering how our bodies move, incorporating important skills such as balance, coordination, agility, aerobic endurance, strength, and flexibility, all while utilizing good listening, visual, and teamwork skills. This will come in the form of some traditional games such as “red light, green light,” imaginative play, partner-oriented, and team-building activities which emphasize the joy and freedom of exercise as a healthy and integral component of everyday life. Through education of basic anatomy and nutrition, the children will gain a sense of responsibility over their physical bodies and heighten their awareness of themselves in their external, as well as internal, environments. Overall, the goal is to have FUN!
I am a firm believer that children possess a “mind-body wisdom,” an innate sense of how to move correctly, i.e., effectively and efficiently without placing undue stress on their joints and tissues. Over time, due to many factors including poor nutrition habits and poor posture, most individuals lose proper body mechanics, unknowingly and unintentionally placing themselves at risk of injury when they exercise and/or play sports. My objective is to reinforce that mindbody wisdom to engrain sound movement patterns NOW, so they can transfer them to an organized sport or any physical activity they choose, reducing their chance of injury.
Of course, that is my “behind the scenes” objective!
